Job 7

This part of the scripture reading stood out to me today:

“My days come and go swifter than the click of knitting needles, and then the yarn runs out – an unfinished life!” (MSG)

This verse brought to my mind the life of an unbeliever. They are aimlessly “knitting” away without purpose or an end goal. Then one day, the air from their lungs is removed and they are like a cloud that vanishes and never returns. How sad. To live a life like this with absolutely no hope. To have used up all your yarn without any purpose or plan.

John 19:30b reads, “‘It is finished’. With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.”

These are the last words that Jesus spoke before He died. May those words, it is finished, be spoken of us when we pass away too.

  1. I found it interesting that Job said even a “comforting” bed is not comforting to him, because he has nightmares. I found that to be a really interesting picture in my head, as I too feel like my bed is a place to relax and recover for a new day. And yet this relaxation was taken away from Job too

  2. This sounds almost sarcastic to me:

“If I have sinned, what have I done to you, O watcher of all humanity? Why make me your target? Am I a burden to you?”

“If I have sinned”?? The bible clearly states we ALL have sinned. I know Job is just trying to figure this all out but he’s pretty cocky to believe that he has not sinned and questioning God.

  3. “What are people, that you should make so much of us, that you should think of us so often? For you to examine us every morning and test us every moment.” Job 7:17-18 NLT
These sound like words from a child who feels that their parent is always on their case. Always reprimanding, correcting, and challenging their ways. A parent does this because they love their child and want the absolute best for them. God is no different; He made us in his image, He loves us, and He wants the very best for us.
