From a behemoth in the last chapter to the description of a leviathan in today’s reading. Once again, there is uncertainty as to what this animal actually is, but there is certainty in its power and strength.
While reading this chapter, a few characteristics of this beast reminded me of Satan. Verse 22 reads, “Strength resides in his neck; dismay goes before him.” The Message translates this verse to say, “All muscle he is – sheer and seemless muscle. To meet him is to dance with death.” Satan is a muscle and wants to keep a tight grip on us. When we sin we meet with Satan, and the wages of sin is death.
“Nothing on earth is his equal – a creature without fear. He looks down on all that our haughty; he is king over all that is proud.” (Verses 33-34) The fear in the leviathan has no match on earth and the same goes for Satan. Satan wants you to be proud because he is king of the proud.
God uses the characteristics of this beast to convince Job of his weakness. The creator of something will always be superior to its creation. Satan will be greater than those he models, and thankfully God created all things and is greater than Satan.

I never thought of the leviathan as Satan, that’s an interesting way to think of it! And I liked the ending – even after the description of how scary/evil this creature is, he can never be greater/more powerful than his Creator. I am so glad that God is superior to Satan!

Interesting to compare the creature to Satan and be reminded that
even such a powerful creature is not match for God’s power. This stood out for me: “Who has given me anything that I need to pay back? Everything under heaven is mine.”
Job 41:11
God owes us nothing. We are so unworthy and yet so loved.

“Who has given me anything that I need to pay back? Everything under heaven is mine.” Job 41:11 NLT
That which has been created can offer nothing to the creator; the creator will always be superior and God is no different. He is all powerful, all knowing, in charge of all things, and runs the universe. As Pamela commented above, we are so unworthy and yet so loved. God owes us nothing.!
