“When Abram was 99 years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, ‘I am God Almighty; walk before me and be blameless.”
These are the words that God speaks to Abram before He makes His covenant with him. A healthy relationship is two sided, one that gives and takes. Our relationship with God should be no different.
God asks Abram to be obedient. To “walk before me and be blameless.” He asks Abram to be just as committed to Him as He is to Abram by living entirely for God.
So how is Abram to show his commitment to God? To be circumcised…….ouch! Well, on that very day, all the males born in his household or bought with his money, including Abram himself, were circumcised; just as God told him.
Today’s reading was a good example of not only responding in obedience to God, but also responding without hesitation. May my commitment to God be as evident as Abraham’s.

Nicely put, I hope my commitment to God is that evident too

Here’s some additional infomation about why God chose circumcision as a sign: https://www.sermoncentral.com/sermons/of-all-the-options-for-a-sign-why-did-god-choose-circumcision-jim-butcher-sermon-on-salvation-175494
I think it’s admirable that Abraham obeyed immediately and it makes you wonder what his son and other members of his family said when Abraham announced this plan. But Abraham did not let the opinions of others interfere with following God’s plan

Thanks for the additional insight as I often wondered about that too. I also think it’s admirable that all of Abraham’s family and servants obeyed the plan too. I personally would have had some reservations on that…….

The same thoughts once again resonated with me today – perhaps it’s because Abram and all the other males immediately were circumcised at various ages. Abram was 99 and Ishmael was 13. Would I do that for God at 47? I would like to say that I would, but I honestly don’t know……
Perhaps this is a good passage to view in light of where do we see our relationship with God and how committed we are (or not) to Him.
