Genesis 24

“Laban and Bethuel answered, “This is from the Lord; we can say nothing to you one way or the other. Here is Rebekah; take her and go, and let her become the wife of your master’s son, as the Lord has directed.”

Leading up to this point, the Lord provided exactly what was prayed for. A few thoughts came into my mind as I was reading today’s chapter. The first is that God wants us to be specific in what we’re praying for. Secondly, we need to watch and listen to how God is answering our prayers, and lastly, we need to be obedient when God answers our prayer.

  1. Thank you for your thoughts.
Similar to what you found, I found it encouraging to read how closely both Abraham and his servant listened to God. Abraham clearly stated that if his servant did everything he told him to do but did not find a wife for his son, then he would be taken off from the oath. Abraham was aware that God’s plans may be different from his and so he left an “escape route” in his plan in case God wanted Isaac to find a wife a different way.
This encourages me to be aware of God’s plans and open to Him changing the course of my life, trusting that His good plan will prevail.

  2. I always think it’s amazing that Rebekah offered to water the camels as well. Was she prompted by God? Did she always go the extra miles? Did she not have anything better to do? Could she have known that her act of service was a direct answer to prayer? May we seek to respond to God’s nudging and perhaps be the answer to someone’s prayer. Also it’s amazing that she picked up her life and willingly left everything she knew to become the wife of a stranger. I’m not sure I would have done that…watered the camels-yes but to leave my life for the unknown?- doubtful

  3. This is a great chapter to reflect on the goodness and faithfulness of God, to be specific in our prayer requests, to listen to God and for His prompting, but then to also be obedient to God’s leading.
