“‘You have saved our lives,’ they said. ‘May we find favour in the eyes of our lord, we will be in bondage to Pharaoh.'” NIV
In The Message translation, it reads, “They said, ‘You’ve saved our lives! Master, we’re grateful and glad to be slaves to Pharoah.'”
We are all slaves to something, but are we grateful? The Egyptians essentially now have no money, no livestock, and they have now also sold their land. They own and possess nothing. They are 100% reliant on Pharaoh; and what was their attitude? The Egyptians were grateful to be his slaves, for he saved their lives.
This verse reminded me of what our perspective should be of our Lord. We ought not to be reliant on ourselves, for everything we have is from Him. We should be able to part with our possessions, our bank accounts, and all other belongings, and be grateful that Jesus has saved our lives!

I never thought about it like that. Now that you bring it up, there is quite the parallel between this story in the Bible and the relationship we should have with Jesus.

I noticed that too…they had nothing and yet they were grateful. Surely if these people who have nothing can show gratitude then we, blessed with so much, can be gracious too.
