Genesis 48

“‘They are the sons God has given me here,’ Joseph said to his father. Then Israel said, ‘Bring them to me so I may bless them.'”

Praying a blessing over someone; this verse reminded me of the importance of doing so. We see this done publicly at a baby dedication, or when a church sends someone off as a missionary, but do we do this enough?

Not that it needs to be a prophetic blessing, but there is merit in verbally giving praise to God, and being reminded of what He has done for us and the generations before.

  1. I think the blessing of the youngest son over the older one shows that in a society that values birth order and birth rights that no matter what your place in life, God can have a supreme plan for your life.
