Leviticus 17

“For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one’s life.”

God knew people would sin. The consequence of sin is death. God provided animals for sacrifice, and made them with “life” (blood) to make atonement for sin. The blood sacrificed in the OT pointed forward to the Lamb of God, who obtained for his people eternal redemption.

I am often amazed at the details, knowledge, and thought that God would have had before He put creation into being. Everything fits together and is connected one way or another. I’m not a planner, so maybe that is why the above verse stood out to me today.

  1. ““And if any native Israelite or foreigner living among you ….”

Not just God’s chosen people but everyone regardless of born in or just association, was required to follow the commands. His laws apply to all and so does salvation apply to all who believe.
