Throughout the book of Leviticus we have read about holy people, holy things, and holy places. Today, we read about holy times.
While reading about the times God commanded the Israelites to rest and present sacred offerings to Him rather than working, it reminded me of how even today we typically have one day each month as a holiday to “rest”. Of course our holidays are not being used the way God commanded the Israelites by keeping them holy, but it does show that God knows we need a rest and need to recharge.
“It is a sabbath of rest for you, and you must deny yourselves. From the evening of the ninth day of the month until the following evening you are to observe your sabbath.”
Denying oneself is purposely deciding to not indulge in your own desires or pleasures. This is quite contrary to what society says today. Society says to do what makes you feel good. How different the world would be if we weren’t so selfish, each of us wanting to pursue our own agendas.

We live ina society that does not take time to rest. Sundays are just another work day. God commanded us to take a day-even He did!- and people tend to ignore the need for rest until it’s too late. They get sick, their family is falling apart, or they think they are too important to step back.
