Leviticus 24

“If anyone takes the life of a human being, he must be put to death”

I found this verse interesting because it immediately followed the verse that God commanded the Israelites to stone the one who cursed the Name of God.

A blasphemer is one who mocks or claims to be God. Curse can have a few different meanings; one being someone who violates community standards defined by God or tradition.

If I put this all together (so keep in mind these are my thoughts and my own perspective on trying to makes sense of this all) theoretically, the son in this story has “taken God’s life” and pays the penalty – life for life as God commands in verse 18.

We all will come to the same trial as this son did. Life for life. Will we be put to death; being held accountable for mocking God and not accepting Him, or will we receive eternal life in His presence for accepting Him as King of our lives?

  1. Along the same lines, in reality everyone who curses God will be sentenced to death…maybe not as in a physical death by stoning on earth but an eternity separate from God after death.
