“Set the value of a male between the ages of twenty and sixty at fifty shekels of silver,”
Reading this made me realize that I am on the latter half of my “prime” age. When I think of the age that I have felt that God can use me for His glory, it’s always been when I retire from my career. But this verse would say the opposite and that the time that I would be most effective is now. Being in my prime, I should look upon myself as being obliged to do more in the service of God than those who are older.
However, there is still value for children younger than five and for people older than sixty. God expects and requires from everyone to give from what they have, and not according to what they don’t have.

What stood out for me was the continued reference to the year of jubilee. I wonder how much looser we’d hang on to our earthly possessions if every 50 years we had to restart?
