Numbers 4

In today’s chapter, the Lord commands Moses and Aaron to count all the men between the ages of thirty and fifty who have come to serve in the work in the Tent of Meeting. Again, the men in this age bracket were considered to be in their prime time for service.

Even though they would have been in their prime, it was important for them to know what they could and could not do. Despite the fact that the primary care of the holy things was given to the Kohathites, they were forbidden to touch the furnishings or to even look at them. If they did, they would die.

God calls different people for different tasks. When we try to accomplish something on our own, it will be sure to fail. This chapter reminded me to seek God’s plan, but then to also obey His direction while not trying to incorporate my own selfish desires.

  1. What stood out for me was the sacredness of the items. Even looking at them would result in death. It makes me wonder where are those objects now? Who could have taken them without losing their life? Also I liked the support for the idea that everyone has a specific and important job and not everyone can do everything. That’s a good reminder!
