Numbers 6

“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace.”

I have read and heard this benediction prayed out loud many times. Something that I had not realized before is that the verse prior to this benediction reads, “The Lord said to Moses, ‘Tell Aaron and His sons ‘This is how you are to bless the Israelites.'”

These are actually words of blessing from God being spoken to the Israelites through Aaron and his sons. How encouraging that must have been for the Israelites!

Something that I believe most people are in search of is peace. Peace from war. Peace in death. Peace in the decisions they’ve made. Peace in their actions. Peace in their gender. Peace with their job. Peace with the vehicle the drive. Peace with the house the live in. Peace with their spouse, and the list goes on.

When a person deals with an addiction, what they really are doing is looking at the root of it and discovering what’s feeding that addiction. Similarly, people in search of peace need to look at its root. Unfortunately for most people, they fail to discover that true peace can only come from God.

  1. You thoughts are much deeper than mine…I keep wondering how often people are in the presence of dead bodies?! There seem to be many commands about it that it must have been a common occurrence.

  2. Sometimes I wonder if I’m going too abstract in my thinking…….but I have also wondered why so many verses on the dead bodies. Maybe it’s because they weren’t sure how to deal with death, or what happens after death?
