“Tell the Israelites to bring you a red heifer without defect or blemish and that has never been under yoke.”
The qualifying words “without blemish or defect” are familiar, but some other things stood out to me as being different. First off it was a cow not an ox, it was slaughtered not sacrificed, it was killed outside the camp not on the altar, and it needed to be red.
The idea of the heifer needing to be red, made it more rare and more remarkable. Symbolizing the remarkable and rare sacrifice of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.

…. This is a permanent law for the people of Israel and any foreigners who live among them.”
Numbers 19:10 NLT
Again, the reminder that the law, the sacrifice, the sin, the redemption is not just for the Israelites but for everyone.
