“God is not a man, that he should lie, nor son of man, that he should change his mind.”
In this chapter we read how Balak asks Balaam to curse the Israelites, not once but twice. Balaam continues to say that he can only do what God is telling him to do. This sounds admirable, but in the back of my mind, I also feel that Balaam is acting very passively in that he never outright says no to Balak, but puts it back on God and possibly thinks that God will change His mind.
The words in the above verse describe the consistent and unchanging integrity of God. Balaam on the other hand, is constantly shifting and changing; a prime example of the distinction between God and man.

We tend to only hear what we want to hear instead of hearing what us being said. May that be a lesson to us to really listen and to ponder what is being said instead of trying to make what is being said into what we want to hear.
