Today’s reading reminded me that the friendship of the wicked can be more dangerous than their hostility. The Moabite women lured the Israelite men into worshiping their god, Baal, by presenting them initially with food and sexual relations; possibly two of mans weakest areas.
The only way the Israelites could be overcome was by temptation of their own internal lusts and pleasures, it was not by the aggressive behaviour of Balak wanting to have a curse placed on them. We are no different. It starts with a slow fade, and if we’re are not careful, we will find ourselves in a position we never thought possible.

I think we live in a society just like then. Sin isn’t hidden. Just like the brazen actions of the man who paraded the woman in front of everyone, sin is paraded in front of everyone and celebrated. Pride month, abortion rallies, euthanasia, pornography, etc. are put on display for all to see. However, just like the man was punished for his actions, people will face the consequences for their actions as well. It may not be as swift as this guy’s judgement but it will happen eventually.
