Numbers 29

Soon after the day of atonement, that day in which men were to afflict their souls, followed the feast of tabernacles, in which they were to rejoice before the Lord. Two things stood out to me about that.

The first is that we all need to make atonement for our sins but we should spend more time in rejoicing before God. Where our focus is, is the direction we will tend to go. So we should spend less time dwelling on our mistakes in comparison to dwelling on rejoicing on what Christ has done for us.

The second thought is that we should not grow weary in our rejoicing to God. Their days of rejoicing were commanded to be days of sacrifices. It is a command, but also in our best interest, to be continually in communion with our Lord.

  1. This stood out for me: “do no ordinary work”. I think, too often, our “ordinary work” gets in the way. To be commanded to refrain from the monotony of our daily life opens us up for opportunity to fully appreciate the blessings we have and the gifts God has given us.
