Numbers 32

“If you turn away from following Him, He will again leave all this people in the desert, and you will be the cause of their destruction.”

In this verse, Moses is expressing his fear that this generation of Israelites will make the same mistake as the previous generation; discouraging the other Israelites from crossing over to Canaan, the land the Lord was blessing them with.

This verse stood out to me because the time is nearing for the Israelites to cross over, but Moses will not, and he is well aware of that. Moses could have had the mindset that it doesn’t matter any more, leaving this as Joshua’s problem because he has already been established as being his successor, but Moses does not. He is faithfully committed to follow God until the end, for no glory of his own.

  1. What stood out for me was that they were so close to Canaan and yet they wanted to set up permanent forts to protect their livestock and families. Why didn’t they wait until Canaan to do that? I think that sometimes we settle for mediocre instead of embracing the full magnitude of blessings God wants for us.
