Numbers 34

In this chapter, we read of the boundaries as well as the first generation leaders by tribe being outlined by God to Moses.

The city that we live in has an area of approximately 179 square miles. The land given to the Israelites would have measured approximately 5,600 square miles. The listing of the four boundaries is not only for information, but also to display the dimensions of God’s great gift to his people.

  1. Interesting, that the boundaries stood out for me too…but not as the same perspective.

I thought that after 40 years it was interesting that there were boundaries at all. The Israelites had travelled so far and promised so much and yet there were boundaries they were expected to adhere to. It made me think that in life, we always have boundaries. They reign us in, keep us safe, and let us know our place. Having too much freedom (no boundaries) actually is chaos and that is not comfortable. We see what happens when kids don’t have boundaries or when relationships don’t have boundaries, or when criminals don’t have boundaries (thinking about our recent visit to S-21) and it’s chaos. God set out boundaries to allow people to be secure and know their place and to feel safe and secure…just like a good father would.
