“For the Lord your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory.”
This verse was a good reminder for me that the daily battles we face need to be given to the Lord. It is not on our strength or our ability that give us the victory, it is only on Christ’s strength and His power and His ability.
“Then the officers shall add, ‘Is any man afraid or fainthearted? Let him go home so that his brothers will not become disheartened too.'”
In the wars that Israel engaged in by the will of God, they were to expect victory by having Divine assistance. The Lord was to be their only confidence.
God does not want to force us to serve Him; we must be willing to run the Christian race, keep the faith, and to lay aside all that will keep us from being unwilling.

“But you may keep for yourselves all the women, children, livestock, and other plunder. You may enjoy the plunder from your enemies that the Lord your God has given you.”
Deuteronomy 20:14 NLT
Interesting that God only said that the men needed to be destroyed when it is shown that women could be just as likely to turn people from God… and wouldn’t some children grow up and seek revenge on those who killed their fathers? Why didn’t God demand all people destroyed?
