Psalm 87

“The Lord loves the gates of Zion more than all the other dwellings of Jacob.” Psalm 87:2 NIV

On a drive to Key West, there appeared to be only one road leading into the keys and therefore, only one road to exit. We had never been there before, so the ride was interesting, quite unique, and at times even fascinating. If a person designed this entrance and exit, they would find pleasure in watching the people as they entered the area for the first time.

When we have company coming over, we watch with anticipation for the arrival of our guests. Even though the company has just arrived, it is almost as though the climax of the day has peaked. While reading this Psalm, I was reminded of an old hymn that we sang in church. It has these words:

“I will enter His gates with thanksgiving in my heart, I will enter His courts with praise.”

We will enter His courts with thanksgiving and praise. But how much more thankful will God, our Creator be, to see His child enter His gates and be able to welcome them home!

  1. Good thoughts. This stood out for me:

“O city of God, what glorious things are said of you!”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭87:3‬ ‭NLT‬‬

When something is good, you just want to tell others about it. May we desire to share about God’s goodness and mercies to those who do not know.
