1 Chronicles 4

What I found interesting in this chapter was the notation of specialized jobs in certain areas. There were clans that consisted of the linen workers in Beth Ashbea, and potters who lived in Netaim and Gedorah.

I always thought the people at this time all lived the same lives doing the same things. But obviously these towns were being developed and specializing in their specific trades, much like today.

  1. I thought that was interesting especially the pottery makers which almost seems like a ‘luxury’ (artistic) job rather than necessity such as farmer or herdsman.

    This stood out for me:
“He was the one who prayed to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and expand my territory! Please be with me in all that I do, and keep me from all trouble and pain!” And God granted him his request.”
    ‭‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭4:10‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Praying specifically for things has been on my mind lately. When you pray specifically, it becomes easy to see God clearly working and answering your prayers. Jabez (with a name meaning pain or distress asked God specifically to expand his territory, stay close to him, and keep him from all trouble and pain. That’s a pretty tall order and very specific…and we learn that God not only heard his prayer but granted it. What an encouragement to know God can fill those big tall orders!
