Psalm 102

“For my days vanish like smoke; my bones burn like glowing embers.” Psalm 102:3 NIV

This verse jumped out to me because often while having a camp fire (not that mrsdoe knows what that is 😜) I will watch the smoke in amazement as it disappears. This is also true of our lives. We can be here one moment and just like that, we are taken away from this world.

Something else I found interesting was the title to this chapter. In my parallel Bible, three translations titled it as a prayer for someone being overwhelmed with trouble, or being afflicted, or whose life is falling apart, and wanting to let God know how bad things are. In my NKJV, the title had “The Lord’s Eternal Love” in addition to the prayer to the Lord. This caused me to ask myself where I’m putting my focus. Do I focus on my current situation, or do I place my focus on who God is?

“But you remain the same, and your years will never end.” Psalm 102:27 NIV

Where do we place our trust? In ourselves, whom we know will fade away, or in God, who remains the same and never withers?

  1. Funny.

This stood out for me: “Don’t turn away from me in my time of distress. Bend down to listen, and answer me quickly when I call to you.”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭102:2‬ ‭NLT‬‬

We live in an instant society. Fast food, text, swipe, tap, etc. We don’t like to wait and we want answers now. I guess it was no different back then too when we ask for God to bend his ear to listen and to answer quickly. God grant me the patience to wait on His timing and not my own.
