This Psalm is a very well known one. We recently went through this Psalm in Sunday School, and I was reminded again today of how good our Shepherd is.
“The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need.” (Verse 1 NLT) “He makes me lay down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters.” (Verse 2 NKJV)
In our Sunday School class, we learned some sheep characteristics in order to appreciate the text in this Psalm. Sheep will not lay down unless they feel safe, and they will not drink water from a stream that flows quickly. Sheep have an innate need for safety, and the shepherd is aware of this.
Just as a shepherd knows and understands what their sheep need, so does our Shepherd know what we need. Just as the sheep are obedient to their shepherd, so we should be obedient to ours. All we need to do, is put our trust in Him.

I thought about our Sunday school discussion too. Really the first verse sums it up so well: “The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need.”
Psalms 23:1 NLT
We often need this reminder.
