“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him.” Psalm 24:1 NLT
When a child, young or old, acts in a positive or negative manner, it reflects back onto their parent. When a child is obedient and well behaved, we think their parent raised them right. When the child is disobedient or makes poor decisions, we think their parent didn’t do their job. The same goes for us as believers and followers of Christ. Our actions, good or bad, right or wrong, will reflect onto others, particularly non-believers, as to who the Lord is.
In addition, the verse says that we belong to Him. So this indicates that we are not our own; our mind, body, and soul actually belong to Him. The fact that everything (ourselves included) belongs to Him, He has the right to claim them (and us) for His service.
As verse 6 says, may we be “the generation of those who seek him, who seek your face, God of Jacob.” (NIV) And may the choices we make, clearly and accurately point out who the Lord, our Father, truly is.

Interesting that the same verse stood out for me: “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him.”
Psalms 24:1 NLT
It reminded me of the family meeting today. To put in another way: The house is the parents’ and everything in it. The contents of it and all the people in it belong to us.
We own the house, we own everything in the house, and our adult children technically belong to us. However, our kids have free will and can, and often do, choose to act in a way that might be contrary to what we want them to. We have free will and can, and often do, choose to act in a way that’s contrary to God wants us to. We deserve respect as the owners and providers the but we don’t always get it. God deserves respect as the owner and provider but we don’t always give it to him either.
