“We put our hope in the Lord. He is our help and our shield.” Psalm 33:20 NLT
In whom do we put our hope and protection? Ourselves? Our government? Or a mighty warrior?
Psalm 33 provides many examples for why the writer is able to put their hope in the Lord:
1. The word of the Lord holds true, and He is faithful in all He does (vs4)
2. He spoke, and in doing so, created the world (vs 9)
3. The Lord is the ruler of, and in control of the nations (vs 10). He can foil their plans (vs 9) while His plans stand firm (vs 11)
4. He keeps His eye on those who fear Him, as He is ready to rescue them (vs 18-19)
God is worthy of our praise for His truth appears in His Word. His power appears in His creation. His sovereignty appears in His providence within the government of the world. And His favour appears on those who put their fear in Him.
As The Message translation says in verse 20, “We’re depending on God; (because) He’s everything we need.”

Great thoughts and a great reminder that we have reasons to hope in the Lord.
This stood out for me: “He made their hearts, so he understands everything they do.”
Psalms 33:11, 15 NLT
As our kids are grown, they sometimes make decisions that I don’t understand. I may not understand, but God does and that gives me comfort. Also connected to that is: “But the Lord’s plans stand firm forever; his intentions can never be shaken.”
Psalms 33:11 NLT
which reminds me that whatever I do or whatever I don’t do or whatever they do or don’t do cannot change what God has planned.
