“In their blind conceit, they cannot see how wicked they really are.” Psalm 36:2 NLT
“You’re a fountain of light; and you open our eyes to light.” Psalm 36:9 The Message
Two verses that illustrate two truths. The first is, when we walk without a fear of God, we are blind and in total darkness. We flatter ourselves in believing that our thoughts and wicked ways will not be noticed.
But then there’s the second truth, which is the opposite to darkness – light. For it is in His light, that we see. It is in His light that we see our wrongs, our wickedness, and come to know our evil thoughts.
Thankfully there’s a third truth found between these two verses. “How precious is your unfailing love, O God! All humanity finds shelter in the shadow of your wings. You feed them from the abundance of your own house, letting them drink from your river of delights.” Psalm 36:7-8 NLT
This third truth is available for all. The love of our Lord surpasses all wickedness imaginable, and in Him, we receive shelter and our desires fulfilled.

The first verse stood out for me:
“Sin whispers to the wicked, deep within their hearts. They have no fear of God at all.”
Psalms 36:1 NLT
Sin “whispers”. It doesn’t yell or scream but whispers because it invites you to lean in and here something that appears like a secret. However, once you know a secret it often leads to deceit since even in the case of a “good secret” there is often lies to cover up the whispers. We recently helped with the details for a surprise party. There were whispers. There was lying or half truths. Maybe we had a fear that someone would find out but in this instance the ruining of a surprise party would not be a huge deal. When sin whispers, it causes deceitful behaviour that often breeds more deceit. There is less a fear that God will know and more that will be found out and have to stop. Oh what a slow fade sin brings into our lives.

Great point in that a whisper causes us to lean in to hear it!
