Psalm 69

This Psalm is an urgent plea for help. David, the writer, begins the Psalm by indicating that he is in trouble and over his head. His throat is sore from crying out and his eyes are failing him because they’re filled with tears. He’s being wrongfully accused by his enemies and he’s an unwanted guest in his own family.

His response? “But I keep praying to you, Lord, hoping this time you will show me favour. In your unfailing love, O God, answer my prayer with your sure salvation.” Psalm 69:13 NLT

David understood where he should place his hope. He also understood that his strength was limiting and that it is the Lord who rescues and delivers him. “I am suffering and in pain. Rescue me, O God, by your saving power.” (verse 29 NLT)

But David’s prayer does not end with his plea for help. “Then I will praise God’s name with singing, and I will honour Him with thanksgiving.” (verse 30 NLT) This is a prayer of hope, but even more so, a prayer of certainty in that God will redeem him.

As much as David desires to be rescued, he has an even stronger desire in being able to praise God for His power, to have others be encouraged by His saving grace, and remind those who are His servants, that they too will one day inherit the Kingdom of God.

  1. I guess we really do think the same…this verse stood out for me too: “But I keep praying to you, Lord, hoping this time you will show me favor. In your unfailing love, O God, answer my prayer with your sure salvation.”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭69:13‬ ‭NLT‬‬

I keep praying. I will pray without ceasing. I will call upon the Lord. When we call on God, he will answer and we have hope in Him.
