“Return to Jerusalem and tell Absalom, ‘I will now be your advisor, O king, just as I was your fathers advisor in the past.’ Then you can frustrate and counter Ahithophel’s advice. Zadok and Abiathar, the priests, will be there. Tell them about the plans being made in the king’s palace, and they will send their sons Ahimaaz and Jonathan to tell me what is going on.” 2 Samuel 15:34-36 NLT
There was no internet in this day and age, so there would not have been any instant messaging or notifications. It’s hard for us to imagine to actually have to wait for an answer. News would have only travelled as fast as the people could travel.
But on the flip side, imagine the time David would have had to pray unto the Lord. This would have been a time that would have allowed David to slow down, pray to God, and seek His counsel. I’m reminded of our current world situation in regards to all the shut downs due to the coronavirus, and how we are being encouraged, and forced in some parts, to slow down and even stop.
What a great opportunity we have right now for people to spend time together as a family, praying to God, relying on the Lord and His sovereignty, and being able to actually slow down and seek His direction.

I also thought of the situation we are now in. When David received the warnings that an attack was imminent, David had a choice to stay right where he was and trust that God would not allow Absalom to triumph over him. We could decide not to obey the warnings about the severity of this virus and just keep doing our lives as we normally do and trust that God would not allow the virus to overpower us. David chose to heed the warnings and be proactive in protecting himself. He is still trusting God will work things out according to His plan but David is doing all he can as well. We are self-isolating not because we don’t trust God but we are proactive in protecting ourselves.
