1 Chronicles 28

“‘All this’, David said, ‘I have in writing as a result of the Lord’s hand on me, and he enabled me to understand all the details of the plan.'” 1 Chronicles 28:19 NIV

Earlier in the chapter, David said to Solomon, “And Solomon, my son, learn to know the Lord intimately. Worship and serve him with your whole heart and a willing mind……If you seek him, you will find him.”

David was intimate with the Lord, and as a result, the Lord provided David with ears to hear and a mind to understand the Lord’s direction in building the Temple. In addition to understanding the details of the Lord’s plan, David was also obedient to those plans.

David knew the Lord, served Him wholeheartedly, and he was willing to work at it as to the Lord, and not unto men or himself.

  1. Parents advise their children. They often can see outside of the situation and have less emotion attached to decisions. They have life experience and wisdom and a fully functioning frontal lobe. But children don’t often see their parents in that way. As David gives these instructions (and these are right from God) I can *almost* see Solomon’s eyes rolling as he hears his dad out. Parents do want the best for their kids and can’t help but to give them advice to help them do their best. However, just like we wander away from our Heavenly Father, kids often walk away from their parents too. Solomon had a big task before him and David set out to give him the best way to get there.
