2 Chronicles

To quickly recap, in 1 Chronicles 28, David summoned all the leaders of Israel and announced to them that Solomon, his son, was the one that the Lord chose to build His temple. Along with that, if Solomon served the Lord wholeheartedly, his kingdom would be established forever.

“Now, O Lord, let Your promise to David my father be established, for You have made me king over a people like the dust of the earth in multitude.” 2 Chronicles 1:9 NKJV

Here we have a young 20 year old leading an entire nation. As young and inexperienced as Solomon may have been, he shows a level of maturity that many adults do not possess. By Solomon asking the Lord to establish the promise made to his father, Solomon has already decided in his heart and is now promising verbally to God that he will not reject Him, but that he will serve Him wholeheartedly and follow all His commands.

The knowledge and wisdom that Solomon asked for was so that he could govern God’s people effectively, and not for his own benefit or glory. A good reminder for us to ask ourselves why we are making the requests that we do to the Lord.

  1. Sometimes it’s easy to overlook logistics like in this verse: “There in front of the Tabernacle, Solomon went up to the bronze altar in the Lord’s presence and sacrificed 1,000 burnt offerings on it.”
    ‭‭2 Chronicles‬ ‭1:6‬ ‭NLT‬‬
One thousand burnt offerings?! Were they done all at one time? Did one completely burn up before another was added? How long did this take?

These big numbers (sacrifices, troops, people in a city, days, etc.) are easy to skim over but to really consider them is important
