There was a lot to chew on in reading through this chapter.
“Joyful is the person who finds wisdom, the one who gains understanding.” Proverbs 3:13 NLT
Last night our 19 year old son came into our room for some insight. It was due to a decision that he needed to make. As we were discussing his dilemma, it became apparent that he was thirsting for a deeper knowledge than what he had in order to make a sound decision. We did not want to simply tell him what to do, so we suggested that he take some time to pray about it. Further to that, we laid out all the facts for him, provided various outcomes for him to consider, added our personal experiences, and we closed with what we would do based on these facts, and our experiences. In the end, he left our room very joyful, along with a feeling of peace regarding the decision he had to make.
The various titles for this chapter in my parallel Bible are as follows: NIV- Wisdom Bestows Well-Being, NLT – Trusting in the Lord, and the NKJV – Guidance for the Young. Each a different title, but all very applicable to our encounter last night.

So many nuggets of wisdom but this familiar one stood out for me: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.”
Proverbs 3:5 NLT
Our own understanding is extremely limited. Our son may have realized that when coming to us last night as we brought up things and scenarios that he did not consider on his own. When we trust in God’s plan for us and not in our own abilities and knowledge that is truly wise.
