Proverbs 4

“Listen, my sons, to a father’s instructions; pay attention and gain understanding.” Proverbs 4:1 NIV

I couldn’t help but notice that in verses 1, 5, and 7, we are encouraged to gain understanding. In the NLT, it uses the words to learn and develop understanding. According to the Oxford dictionary, develop is to “grow or cause to grow and become more mature, advanced, or elaborate.”

“Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways.” Proverbs 4:26 NIV

It is in the development of our understanding that allows us to ponder and give careful thoughts to our paths. When we gain understanding, we receive knowledge, and knowledge is what allows us to be firm, unwavering, and steadfast in all our ways.

  1. Our principal has doing a daily devotional on Proverbs and has chosen verse today was: “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭4:23‬ ‭NLT‬‬

What we choose to love (in our hearts) affects our whole lives. This is important to consider as we place importance to things that do not have a lasting value.
