Proverbs 6

“Take a lesson from the ants, you lazybones. Learn from their ways and become wise.” Proverbs 6:6 NLT

After reading this verse and thinking about ants and their ways, I was reminded of being fascinated at a young age by their actions. Ants are always moving – I can not recall a time that I have seen an ant and it was standing still. They can easily climb over obstacles or up trees, and they can enter buildings high and low while they search for food. They do not hinder each other, but rather they help one another, by carrying items that which are beyond their individual physical abilities.

The ant analogy in this verse may be a comparison for the person guaranteeing someone else’s debt, or perhaps for the individual in debt, for not taking the appropriate steps in being removed from that situation. Or, it may be to encourage us away from being idle, which can lead to various sins.

Either way, we are told to be wise – wise in our actions to avoid a burdensome situation. But if we find ourselves in one, we are to work to the point of exhaustion to be removed from it.

  1. This stood out for me: “Can a man scoop a flame into his lap and not have his clothes catch on fire?”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭6:27‬ ‭NLT‬‬

This evening we talked about godless people thriving and if that causes us to be bitter. I truly feel that there are consequences for our actions and our lifestyle choices. We cannot keep making destructive choices (scooping up flames) without it eventually burning us.
