Proverbs 8

“To you, O people, I call out; I raise my voice to all mankind.” Proverbs 8:4 NIV

This verse stood out to me because it shows that we have all been provided with an opportunity to obtain wisdom. Regardless of our upbringing, where we live, or how rich or poor we are, wisdom is available for all mankind. Though the cries of wisdom call out to us, the difficult part is listening to it.

“With me are riches and honour, enduring wealth and prosperity.” Proverbs and 8:18 NIV

We go to work for various reasons. Primarily for our immediate needs, but also for the ability to go on vacations, to enjoy some “luxury” items, and all the while saving for an enjoyable retirement. However, we live in a world where everything is disposable as they are not designed to last – even though we work hard for those items. Those who have riches and honour in this world, receive that which is fleeting. Wisdom’s promise in this verse, is that wealth and prosperity endures when it’s obtained through wisdom. These are goods that do not come with a limited warranty, but last for eternity.

  1. This stood out for me: ““And so, my children, listen to me, for all who follow my ways are joyful.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭8:32‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Sometimes we may see rules and restrictions as a punishment or confining. This verse tells us that (as children) we should listen to wisdom not as restrictive rules to follow but something that ends up protecting us. When we follow wise instructions we live without regret and this means we can have joy and not sorrow when we follow God’s ways.
