I found this chapter relating to a theme of how wisdom likes righteousness, and how we ought to walk with the wise. Here’s a few verses that stood out to me:
“Pride leads to conflict; those who take advice are wise.” Proverbs 13:10 NLT
It is when we are confident in ourselves, or have a feeling of great satisfaction from our own achievements in something, that brings us to a point of not taking advice – even from someone wise. If we do not let our own passions control us, but take cautious consideration to those that oppose us, it will allow us to avoid conflict.
“Wise people think before they act; fools don’t – and even brag about their foolishness.” Proverbs 13:16 NLT
It’s interesting (and sad) how some individuals feel the need to almost brag about how bad they were as a child, teenager, or young adult. Where is the joy in that? I find this person will also be the one who is an expert in everything. They will find themselves taking on a project or talking about something that they know nothing about.
And lastly, “Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble.” Provers 13:20 NLT
Pretty straight forward and true.

As a teacher, this stood out for me:
“Those who spare the rod of discipline hate their children. Those who love their children care enough to discipline them.”
Proverbs 13:24 NLT
It may appear that letting your kid do whatever they want will make your relationship good. However, without boundaries and instructions a child grows up out of control. Loving them means disciplining them when they do wrong. Just as God disciplines us, He keeps us from unnecessary harm then if we just did things our own way.
