Proverbs 23

“Apply your heart to instruction, and your ears to words of knowledge.” Proverbs 23:12 NKJV

The first word in this is verse is apply. Not only are we to receive (hear) instruction from our parents and from Scripture, but we are to apply our hearts unto it as well. This is essential to attain victory in areas of our weaknesses.

I am reminded of the words in Deuteronomy 11:18 – Fix these words on mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.

These words were spoken by God as a promise to the Israelites that if they took to heart His instruction, He would drive out nations much bigger and stronger than them. In the same way when we apply our hearts to Scripture, Christ will also drive out those struggles that are much bigger than us.

  1. This stood out for me:

“A prostitute is a dangerous trap; a promiscuous woman is as dangerous as falling into a narrow well. She hides and waits like a robber, eager to make more men unfaithful.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭23:27-28‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Sex is promoted everywhere. In advertising, on tv, movies, sex ed in schools, and literally handed out on the streets (Vegas card flippers: I’m talking about you!) Sex is God designed to be wonderful but as with everything God designed to be amazing, Satan has tried to turn it away from the intention. When sex becomes a weapon used to trap the original God-given design is warped and damage happens. May we strive to keep our minds and actions pure and flee from situations that may temp us. We pray for our kids and future generations to not buy into society’s lies that sex is meaningless.
