Proverbs 24

This chapter has many points of wisdom that we can add to our daily lives. The following verse stood out to me:

“If you fail under pressure, your strength is too small.” Proverbs 24:10 NLT

At first read, I thought this seemed a little harsh. But upon giving it some more thought, it started to make more sense as this verse speaks about who we are in Christ as opposed to who were are as individuals. It acts as a reminder that our strength comes from the Lord and it is only through Christ that we can do all things – it is not from our own strength.

Which leads me to my next verse – “The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again. But one disaster in enough to overthrow the wicked.”

One of the biggest testimonies we can have to the non-believer is how we respond in times of difficulty. May we place our faith and strength in the Sovereign Creator when adversity comes our way, knowing that He will provide the strength we need to get back on our feet again.

  1. Two verses stood out for me: “Don’t excuse yourself by saying, “Look, we didn’t know.” For God understands all hearts, and he sees you. He who guards your soul knows you knew. He will repay all people as their actions deserve.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭24:12

“I didn’t know” is a cop out. God sees right through our excuses and knows the truth. We can’t pull a fast one over Him.

    And

“I walked by the field of a lazy person, the vineyard of one with no common sense. I saw that it was overgrown with nettles. It was covered with weeds, and its walls were broken down.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭24:30-31‬ ‭NLT‬‬

As we redo our yard, I realize how much we’ve just let it go. It may not be out of pure laziness but also lack of time, money, priority, etc. However, common sense would probably mean we would have fixed the sinking sidewalk when we first noticed it not when we’d need a major overhaul. It’s a parallel to our lives, common sense would say that we should fix the little things before they become in need of a major overhaul too.
