2 Chronicles 3

“So Solomon began to build the Temple of the Lord in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the Lord had appeared to David, his father. The Temple was built on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite, the site that David had selected.” 2 Chronicles 3:1 NLT

There may have been some comfort for Solomon in that he didn’t have to plan the layout, the decorations, or the location of the Temple, he just had to follow the Lord’s instructions. But depending on Solomon’s personality, he may have wanted to change things or add his own personal touches or ideas. But that was not in his job description – his job was to carry out the Lord’s commands and laws. This would mean that Solomon would have to to shelf his own ideas and desires. Not questioning every detail, but displaying wisdom knowing that this was all appointed by God.

It is not easy for us to only take instruction. To do as we’ve been told. To not ask why. I found this chapter reminding and encouraging me to seek God’s will and God’s instructions for my life. After all, just as the Lord had done for Solomon is building the Temple, God has all the details figured out in my life – right up until the very end. My job is simply to follow them.

  1. This stood out for me:
“The gold nails that were used weighed 20 ounces each. He also overlaid the walls of the upper rooms with gold.”
    ‭‭2 Chronicles‬ ‭3:9‬ ‭NLT‬‬
Gold nails? Kind of odd to use gold nails when gold is such a soft metal. The Mennonite in me is thinking it’s a bit wasteful to use all the gold for just a room 🙈
