So many great verses in this chapter providing wisdom for all – right from the start:
“Don’t brag about tomorrow, since you don’t know what the day will bring.” Proverbs 27:1 NLT
Just ask anyone who’s living through the current pandemic that have needed to postpone or cancel vacations, holidays, tournaments, extra curricular activities, etc. – and even church.
“A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.” Proverbs 27:12 NLT
We are to be wise by avoiding danger and avoiding sin. James 1:14-15 says, “but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.” Where there is temptation, there is sin. Where there is sin, there is punishment.
“As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.” Proverbs 27:17 NLT
This verse reminds us to be mindful in whom we converse with and how. Two minds challenging each other is to provide a perspective not thought of and allowing them to become more aware – not to be done with the purpose of quarrelling.
“As a face is reflected in water, so the heart reflects the real person.” Proverbs 27:19 NLT
We often check our appearance in a mirror before heading out, but what we need to check and examine is our heart. Let us each examine our own hearts, comparing them only to the word of God.

Again we zero in on many of the same things. This verse especially stood out for me: “A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.”
Proverbs 27:12 NLT
I read today that yesterday was the first day since this pandemic started that NYC did not have a death. It was not uncommon for there to be hundreds of deaths (they reported as many as 800 a day😳) in a single day. Prudent people see danger and take precautions. News reports indicate many Americans are choosing not to do this. By choosing instead to do their own thing and ignore wise counsel, many have died. May we strive to be prudent and not ignore danger.
