Proverbs 28

I find reading through Proverbs to be very enjoyable as there are many lessons to be learned that apply to our lives. Here’s what verses stood out to me today:

“The wicked run away when no one is chasing them, but the godly are as bold as lions. When there is moral rot within a nation, its government topples easily. But wise and knowledgeable leaders bring stability.” Proverbs 28:1-2 NLT

The first verse reminded me of a number of individuals within the church that we are members at. Not to say that these individuals are wicked, but there has been some discussion of people choosing to leave our church for various reasons as opposed to being bold and seeing things through. Being on the board of this church, as an elder, we need wisdom and knowledge in seeking God’s leading and direction to bring stability.

“If anyone turns a deaf ear to my instruction, even their prayers are detestable.” Proverbs 28:9 NIV

If we refuse to yield to God’s commands, He hates and will reject our prayers. We have no reason to ask anything of Him if we are not obedient to His direction and instructions. If we live as unbelievers, our prayers will only bring insult to His majesty, and our praises will reduce His glory.

  1. Good thoughts.

This stood out for me: “When there is moral rot within a nation, its government topples easily. But wise and knowledgeable leaders bring stability.

Better to be poor and honest than to be dishonest and rich.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭28:2, 6‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Money corrupts people. Greed is the root and often leads to dishonesty or deception. Putting our focus on money makes us believe that we are secure because of what WE have earned or what WE have achieved. Relying on money allows us to feel like we don’t have to rely on God. No one truly desires to be poor but it is better to be honest than to sacrifice our integrity to become wealthy.
