“But the Lord said to Shemaiah, the man of God, ‘Say to Rehoboam son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all the Israelites in Judah and Benjamin: ‘This is what the Lord says: Do not fight against your relatives. Go back home, for what has happened is my doing!’ So they obeyed the message of the Lord and did not fight against Jeroboam.” 2 Chronicles 11:2-4 NLT
Those are some pretty clear instructions from the Lord. Not vague. Not murky. Not left up to interpretation, but clear. Oh how nice it would be to hear an audible voice from one of God’s prophets saying to us “This is what the Lord says”!
Today we have the Holy Spirit that can lead and guide us – the tricky part is deciphering between our desires and His will. How do we do this? Spending time in the Scriptures and continual prayer with the Father. This not only keeps our minds and hearts open to the Holy Spirit’s leading, but it also allows the Spirit to speak on our behalf. In Romans 8:26-27, Paul reminds us that “the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will.”
The Spirit intercedes in accordance with God’s will – not contrary to it. So then our next step is obeying the Spirit, which we read today that Rehoboam and the Israelites did, and so should we.

Yup, again the same verse stood out for me: “‘This is what the Lord says: Do not fight against your relatives. Go back home, for what has happened is my doing!’” So they obeyed the message of the Lord and did not fight against Jeroboam.”
2 Chronicles 11:4 NLT
They. Obeyed.
How awesome it would be to have our obedience as part of our story. For us to know God’s will and obey it.
