2 Chronicles 13

“When Judah realized that they were being attacked from the front and the rear, they cried out to the Lord for help. Then the priests blew the trumpets, and the men of Judah began to shout. At the sound of their battle cry, God defeated Jeroboam and all Israel and routed them before Abijah and the army of Judah.” 2 Chronicles 13:14-15 NLT

On paper, the odds were stacked against Abijah. He had selected 400,000 of his best warriors for battle, while Jeroboam countered this by selecting 800,000 of his best soldiers. The difference was that Abijah placed his trust in the Lord. He knew that God was with them. Abijah also knew that this was the Lord’s battle to win based on His promise that the kingdom of the Lord would continue to be led by a descendant of David.

If we do not abandon the Lord but make Him the king of our hearts and cry out to Him in times of need, He will answer us just as He did this day for Abijah and the army of Judah. I am reminded of Jeremiah 17:7 – “But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence.”

May we place our confidence in God as we too stand on the promises of Christ our King!

  1. That stood out for me too: “So Judah defeated Israel on that occasion because they trusted in the Lord, the God of their ancestors.”

No matter how impossible it seems, with God all things are possible.
