This chapter provides a quick rundown regarding the kings of Israel during Asa’s reign in Judah.
The kings we read about all did what was evil in the eyes of the Lord, but the kings seemed to be progressively becoming more and more evil. “But Omri did what was evil in the Lords’ sight, even more than any of the kings before him…….But Ahab son of Omri did what was evil in the Lord’s sight, even more than any of the kings before him.” 1 Kings 16:25 & 30 NLT
We have a choice – we can continue down a path laid by a previous generation, or we can take a different one. We can continue down the path of destruction or we can repent. But it is evident that those who have hardened their heart towards God will not prosper. May our hearts be softened towards God and may He protect us and keep us back from blatant sins.

This stood out for me: ““I lifted you out of the dust to make you ruler of my people Israel, but you have followed the evil example of Jeroboam. You have provoked my anger by causing my people Israel to sin.”
1 Kings 16:2 NLT
Leaders are in a precarious position. They are held to a higher standard and their influence can have disastrous consequences if they choose to lead in a destructive way. Leaders often fail (human nature) but the real harm is when their failure results in harm to others. I believe leaders that lead followers away from God will be judged more harshly because of what their actions caused in others.
