“He (Jehoram) followed the ways of the kings of Israel, as the house of Ahab had done, for he married a daughter of Ahab. He did evil in the eyes of the Lord. Nevertheless, because of the covenant the Lord had made with David the Lord was not willing to destroy the house of David. He had promised to maintain a lamp for him and his descendants forever.” 2 Chronicles 21:6-7 NIV
God is constant, even though we are not. God remains true to His promises, despite our sinful nature and ways in which we forsake Him. Even in light of our sinful actions and thoughts, God will never leave us nor forsake us – it is us who forsake Him.
Because of that fact, we can always return to Him.

This stood out for me:
“Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years. No one was sorry when he died. They buried him in the City of David, but not in the royal cemetery.”
2 Chronicles 21:20 NLT
I’m sure Jerhoram believed that by killing all his brothers and any threat of someone taking the throne that he would reign a long time. Jehoshaphat ruled for 35 years And Jerhoram just 8 and the last two years in agony. We can do things our own way but it rarely turns out well.
