“You have indeed defeated Edom, and you are very proud of it. But be content with your victory and stay at home! Why stir up trouble that will only bring disaster to you and the people of Judah?” 2 Kings 14:10 NLT
Our pride is what permits us to sin. We want more. We believe we deserve more. If we allow it to, pride will bring about a conceit and arrogance within us, making us believe that there is nothing or no one that will be able to stop us. Pride is based on self-centeredness, which is destructive not only to ourselves but to others as well.
This chapter provides a good example of how destructive pride can be – not only did it cost Amaziah his life, but it also brought about the destruction of Judah. May we be able to receive Jehoash’s advice in being content with what we have. But further to that, being content with what the Lord has provided us with.

“However, he did not kill the children of the assassins, for he obeyed the command of the Lord as written by Moses in the Book of the Law: “Parents must not be put to death for the sins of their children, nor children for the sins of their parents. Those deserving to die must be put to death for their own crimes.””
2 Kings 14:6 NLT
We are each responsible and accountable for our own sin. We cannot be saved by our parents and we cannot save our children. We will meet our Creator face to face and account for our lives.
