“Amaziah asked the man of God, ‘But what about all the silver I paid to hire the army of Israel?’ The man of God replied, ‘The Lord is able to give you much more than this!” 2 Chronicles 25:9 NLT
We tend to see what we have in our possessions, or look back at what we’ve accomplished, and quickly forget who allowed this all to happen. When we are following God’s plan wholeheartedly, He has the power to help us. But when we are going against His will, He also has the power to trip us up.

It’s interesting to note that the king did listen to the advice that said don’t go into battle with a hired army but he did not follow the advice to not put anything above God and when rebuked he threatened to kill. “When King Amaziah returned from slaughtering the Edomites, he brought with him idols taken from the people of Seir. He set them up as his own gods, bowed down in front of them, and offered sacrifices to them!”
2 Chronicles 25:14 NLT
It’s hard to believe the king had faith to enter battle without hired troops and yet abandoned worship of God and gave worship to idols instead.
