Jonah 2

“As my life was slipping away, I remembered the Lord. And my earnest prayer went out to you in your holy Temple.” Jonah 2:7 NLT

It is when life becomes difficult for us that we remember the Lord and call upon Him. Two thoughts came to me today regarding this verse and chapter. The first is, I was reminded that it is never too late to start praying. And the second thought is, in spite of God’s displeasure with our sin, He will never forsake us.

This ought to be encouraging for those who have turned away from God, as well as those who have never had a relationship with Him. When we are earnest in our prayer, He is ready to listen and willing to answer us.

One thought on “Jonah 2

  1. This stood out for me: “He said, “I cried out to the Lord in my great trouble, and he answered me. I called to you from the land of the dead, and Lord, you heard me!”
    ‭‭Jonah‬ ‭2:2‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Interesting that the first part is written (translated??) into third person. Not I cried out to you (speaking director God) but rather I cried out to the Lord. Not you answered me but the Lord answered me. Was it because Jonah was feeling removed from God? Was it because it was just a recited prayer without much confidence in God? Was it something Jonah felt he should do? Or was this deep remorse for not showing obedience to God’s command by referring to God in the third person that he was unworthy to address him as a personal Saviour?
