“But when he (Uzziah) had become powerful, he also became proud, which led to his downfall. He sinned against the Lord his God by entering the sanctuary of the Lords’s Temple and personally burning incense on the incense altar.” 2 Chronicles 26:16 NLT
According to The Merriam-Webster Dictionary, pride is “A feeling that you are more important or better than other people”. This definition clearly describes how Uzziah felt about himself at this moment. After all, he knew that the burning of incense on the altar was to be the work of the priests alone, who were set apart by God.
Proverbs 16:18 tells us that “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.” Pride can be our great deceiver. When we let pride rule within us, our inner evil desires are enticed which leads us to sin; and sin, when it is full grown, leads to our death.

Interesting that that verse also stood out for me:
“But when he had become powerful, he also became proud, which led to his downfall. He sinned against the Lord his God by entering the sanctuary of the Lord’s Temple and personally burning incense on the incense altar.”
2 Chronicles 26:16 NLT
I think your definition description highlights another ‘pride’ and believes they are better than anyone else and deserves the spotlight to live out their life in a way that God commands only certain individuals to live. The verse ‘pride goes before destruction’ also foreshadows the future of accepting pride (though contrary to God’s command) and the result that is sure to follow. It might *seem* like Uzziah was just trying to honour God by doing a sacrifice to Him. It may *seem* like marrying a same sex partner is a celebration of commitment that God intended through marriage. However when we stray from what God intended we are deceived and Satan squeezes in the feed the lies we believe.
