Isaiah 4

“All who remain in Zion will be a holy people – those who survive the destruction of Jerusalem and are recorded among the living.” Isaiah 4:3 NLT

I read a commentary on this chapter that mentioned this:

The prophet turns from the Jerusalem that then was, with the hypocrisies and crimes of the men and the harlot fashions of its women, to the vision of a new Jerusalem. There everyone should be called “holy”, and the name should be no unreal mockery, but should express the self-consecration and purity of its inhabitants.

Those who are recorded among the living reminds me of the book of life, as people who, by repentance toward God and faith in the Messiah, have passed from death unto life. The names written in this book are the names of those who are worthy of living in the heavenly city. But this is not a result from what we have done, but from that of what our Lord and Saviour has done – washing away our sins, cleansing us, and making us white as snow.

  1. Interesting.

This stood out for me: “In that day so few men will be left that seven women will fight for each man, saying, “Let us all marry you! We will provide our own food and clothing. Only let us take your name so we won’t be mocked as old maids.””
    ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭4:1‬ ‭NLT‬‬

and I had to look back to see why there were so few men and found this:

“The men of the city will be killed with the sword, and her warriors will die in battle.”
    ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭3:25‬ ‭NLT‬‬

but I was thinking of it from the point of view where our girls are in the potential age of finding a suitable man. Where are they? In the book I read by Vicky Courtney, a generation of boys is avoiding growing up and their masculinity and role is society is questioned because of blurred gender lines. These boys are living in a society where (like this verse) women throw themselves at them and they are passive to receive their affection. Where are the godly men who lead by faith and are spiritual heads of their homes? How can I raise a godly son to be that way?
