Isaiah 7

“Yes, the kings of Syria and Israel are plotting against him, saying, ‘We will attack Judah and capture it for ourselves. Then we will install the son of Tabeel as Judah’s king.’ But this is what the Sovereign Lord says: ‘This invasion will never happen; it will never take place;'”. Isaiah 7:6-7 NLT

People plan to the best of their ability, but sometimes those plans do not work out. These verses reminded me of Proverbs 19:21, which reads, “You can make many plans, but the Lord’s purpose will prevail.”

News had come to Ahaz (the king of Judah) that Israel and Syria were planning to attack Judah and he was worried. In spite of their plotting against Judah, they were unable to carry out their plans.

Verse 7 begins with, “But this is what the Sovereign Lord says:”

The plot against Judah was halted by the Lord Almighty. He is sovereign – all knowing, all powerful, and the supreme ruler. He is the King of kings, who deserves our hearts, our trust, and our faith.

“If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all.” (Isaiah 7:9b NIV)

  1. Good thoughts.

Of course this verse is well known but to realize the context of it today stood out:
“All right then, the Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’).”
    ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭7:14‬ ‭NLT‬‬

This would have seemed so impossible and the amount of time that passed since promised was intense too and yet it came to pass just as He said it would.
